If you’ve just picked up an IQOS ILUMA or the all-in-one ILUMA One, here is a simple, straightforward guide to help you get the best experience from the very first puff.
What Makes IQOS ILUMA Different?
The biggest change in the ILUMA series is the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM™. Unlike older models that used a fragile heating blade inside the device, ILUMA uses magnetic induction to heat the tobacco from within the TEREA stick itself.

- No Cleaning: Since there’s no blade and the sticks are sealed, no tobacco falls out inside the device.

How to Use Your IQOS ILUMA & TEREA
Using the device is a quick process that becomes second nature after a couple of tries.
1. Charge Up
Before your first session, make sure your device is ready.
- ILUMA / Prime: Place the holder into the pocket charger.
- ILUMA One: Plug it directly into a power source using the USB-C cable.
- Check Battery: Tap the button on your device. Four lights mean you’re fully charged; one light means it’s time to plug in.
2. Insert the TEREA Stick
Take a fresh TEREA stick and gently push it into the heating chamber. You’ll want to push it down until it reaches the printed line on the filter.
Pro Tip: Never use HEETS or traditional cigarettes in an ILUMA device. They won’t work and could damage the internal sensor.
3. Start Heating
Most ILUMA devices feature Autostart. Once the stick is detected, the device will vibrate and the lights will start pulsing.
- If it doesn’t start automatically, just hold the button for one second.
- Wait for the second vibration and steady lights—this means it’s ready.
4. The Experience
You can now enjoy your session, which typically lasts about 6 minutes or 14 puffs (whichever comes first).
- Ending Soon: When you feel a final vibration and see the lights blinking, you have about 30 seconds or 2 puffs left.
5. Proper Disposal
Once the session is over, simply pull the TEREA stick straight out. Because TEREA sticks are fully sealed on both ends, you won’t see any messy tobacco crumbs. Let it cool for a moment before disposing of it in a bin.
Quick Maintenance Tips
While you don’t need to scrub the heating chamber anymore, keeping the exterior clean helps.
- The Cap: Occasionally, wipe the top cap with a dry cloth to keep it looking new.
